Cindy Ngamba to make professional debut against Kirstie Bavington on Natasha Jonas vs Lauren Price undercard | Boxing News

Olympic medallist Cindy Ngamba will make her professional debut against European champion Kirstie Bavington on March 7.

Ngamba’s clash with Bavington forms part of a historic all-women’s card at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Friday 7 March, live on Sky Sports, headlined by the welterweight world title unification fight between Britain’s Natasha Jonas and Lauren Price.

Paris Olympian Ngamba, who joins the professional ranks having signed a multi-fight deal with BOXXER, made history at the 2024 Games by becoming the first ever athlete to win a medal for the Refugee Team.

Having won national titles in three different weight classes and captured an Olympic Bronze medal in Paris, the 26-year-old is wasting no time as she seeks to replicate her amateur success in the professional game.

Her opponent Bavington is the current European Welterweight ruler. The 32-year-old from Wolverhampton travelled to France to outpoint Marine Beauchamp in October last year to begin her second reign as European champion having previously held the title in 2022.

In May 2023, Bavington faced Price in the first-ever female British title fight, losing a hard-fought ten-round points decision to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medallist.

Ngamba’s introduction to the professional ranks against Bavington will be an eight-round super welterweight contest.

BOXXER Founder and CEO Ben Shalom said: “Cindy has big ambitions in the professional ranks and wants to test herself against the best.

“To face a fighter like Kirstie Bavington on your professional debut highlights that ambition. Cindy is a special person and a special fighter. She has already achieved great things in her amateur career and we believe this is going to be the start of a very exciting journey as a pro.”

The bout is the latest fight confirmed for Boxxer’s ‘Unstoppable’ fight night – a historic all-women’s world championship event at the Royal Albert Hall, taking place as the curtain-raiser to the International Women’s Day 2025 global campaign the following day.

There is also an all-British featherweight showdown between Karriss Artingstall and Raven Chapman, with more fights set to be added.

Ngamba’s remarkable path to Olympic medal

Based in Bolton and trained by the GB team in Sheffield, Ngamba has lived in the UK since she was a child. She faced the threat of deportation even though Cameroon would have been unsafe for her.

Ngamba achieved the rare feat of becoming a three-time, three-weight England Boxing national amateur champion, extraordinarily doing it by descending through divisions.

Andy Scott and Gary Logan discuss whether Cindy Ngamba is ready to win a world title despite not even turning pro yet

Without documentation she could not box for Britain but kept her Olympic dream alive when she was selected for the Refugee team.

She qualified for Paris 2024, a significant accomplishment in itself. In her first contest at last summer’s Games, Ngamba was drawn against reigning world gold medallist Tammara Thibeault and delivered a stirring victory over the Canadian, then beat host-nation boxer Davina Michel.

Ngamba could have progressed further as well, with Panama’s Atheyna Bylon edging her out on a contentious split decision in their semi-final.

However, the bronze she won was a first Olympic medal for the Refugee team and secured her place in the history books.
