Everton strengthened David Moyes’ squad on transfer deadline day after making one new signing, their only addition of the window. The Toffees signed versatile attacking player Carlos Alcaraz, who has previously had a stint at Southampton, which included a goal away to Arsenal.
The Argentine, who can play as a number ten or even as a false nine, joined on loan from Brazilian club Flamengo on a loan deal until the end of the season.
His quality in the final third and Premier League experience will certainly help the Toffees in their quest for survival. They are currently 16th with 26 points to their name, seven points clear of the relegation zone.
Moyes’ side missed out on another attacking reinforcement on deadline day after reports suggested that they tried to sign Tom Fellows.
Why Everton wanted Tom Fellows
The Merseysiders had reportedly sent off a £15m bid to sign West Bromwich Albion winger Fellows, a player who has been a long-term target.
However, TEAMTalk claim that no bid was actually submitted, due to the signing of Alcaraz and the fact the Baggies did not want to sell their star man so late on in the window. They may, however, revise their interest in the summer.
Regardless of whether they did or did not submit an offer for the 21-year-old wide player, there is no doubt what he would have added to the Toffees squad. Fellows is an assist king, and has ten assists in 30 Championship appearances this season, along with two goals.
The winger, who was born in Solihull, has consistently contributed to goals in 2024/25, including two assists against Stoke City at the start of the campaign, in a 2-1 away win. His longest run without a goal involvement was eight games between October and November. That consistency could have served Everton well.
It was certainly a shame for Moyes’ side to miss out on signing the England under-21 international, or, at the very least, perhaps surprising that they did not end up lodging a bid for him.
However, this may be a blessing in disguise to one member of the Toffees squad, who might have an opportunity to show what he can do under Moyes.
Everton’s in-house Fellows alternative
Perhaps the Merseysiders missing out on signing Fellows will benefit Jesper Lindstrom for the rest of the season. It has not been an easy start to life for the summer signing, who joined on loan from Napoli with an option to buy him.
He has played 22 times for the club so far but has yet to manage a goal or assist across all competitions. The Denmark international has played for 1029 minutes in total, the equivalent of 11 full 90-minute games.
So, with that in mind, it might be surprising that missing out on someone as prolific as Fellows opens the door for Lindstrom. However, the £50k-per-week star has shown how good he can be at former club Eintracht Frankfurt.
There, the Dane found the back of the net 14 times and assisted 14 times in 80 games, over the span of three seasons. In the 2022/23 campaign, he scored and assisted 11 goals in 27 Bundesliga games.

Moyes has taken charge of four games for Everton since his return, and Lindstrom has started three. Perhaps it is a coincidence, but they have won all three of the games the 24-year-old has featured in from the start.
The winger, who was described as “a talent” by football scout Antonio Mango, could certainly have a role to play under Moyes. He has already shown his value to the side, given his involvement from the start in the last three games.
Not signing Fellows was a blow for the Toffees, but perhaps the in-house solution of Lindstrom could be the way forward for Everton, especially if he can begin scoring and creating.
