Where is the NFL championship game venue? Stadium, city where Lionel Messi could attend

All eyes will be on one stadium on Sunday when the Kansas City Chiefs meet the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl 2025.

Football superstar Lionel Messi is reportedly hoping to be among the huge crowd watching in person as the NFL teams contest one of the most prestigious sporting spectacles of the year.

Inter Miami striker and eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi could be one of 76,468 fans filling the host venue for this year’s game.

Here’s where Super Bowl LIX will take place, as well as other key details as the Chiefs take on the Eagles.

Where is the Super Bowl 2025?

The Super Bowl takes place on Sunday, February 9 at the Superdome, which is the home of the New Orleans Saints.

The capacity of the Superdome varies for concerts and events, with a slightly expandable seating capacity of 73,208 for Saints games.

Super Bowl 2025 stadium: New Orleans Superdome

The Super Bowl has been played seven times at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome – more than any other venue.

Super Bowl XII (1978), XV (1981), XX (1986), XXIV (1990), XXXI (1997), XXXVI (2002) and XLVII (2013) all took place at the spectacular setting, which opened as the Louisiana Superdome in 1975.

The Superdome’s 680-foot diameter makes it the largest fixed dome structure in the world, including a roof area of 9.7 acres or 440,000 square feet, reaching 273 feet.

It is also the world’s largest arena to be entirely constructed of steel while being unobstructed by posts or columns and required 20,000 tons of steel to create.

The Superdome was created by law on November 8 1966, with construction started on August 11 1971. It opened on August 3 1975.

Will Lionel Messi attend the Super Bowl?

Messi will face a tight turnaround but wants to make the game, according to USA Today, which cited a close source to the Argentina captain.

Barcelona’s all-time top scorer is expected to play for MLS team Miami in a pre-season game in Honduras at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday night, less than 23 hours before the Super Bowl starts.

The report suggested Messi’s journey from the game to the Super Bowl could take a total of around five hours.

“To have someone like that at the game would be awesome,” said Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, calling Messi “the GOAT of his profession”.

“I get to showcase who I am and what talent that I have. I got to watch him when he played in Kansas City, I think it was last year… and he scored two goals in that game.

“You see the greatness that he displays every single day. And so [he’s] someone else that I can look up to and try to get to his level someday.”Lionel Messi

2025 Super Bowl: When is the game?

The Super Bowl takes place on Sunday, February 9. As usual for NFL games, the Super Bowl is split over four quarters of 15 minutes each, but clock stoppages and the half-time show mean that it usually takes at least three hours to complete.

Kansas beat the Buffalo Bills 32-29 on January 26 to win the AFC Championship and reach the Super Bowl, with Philadelphia earning their place in one of the most watched sporting spectacles of the year by defeating the Washington Commanders 55-23 on the same day.
